TAMUCC Kinesiology & The Right Start Program

About TAMU-CC Kinesiology

The Kinesiology Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is dedicated to advancing the field through education, research, and community engagement. Our program offers a range of academic programs, expert faculty, and numerous research opportunities.

The Right Start Program

The Right Start Program is a division of the FOCUS Foundation, a non-profit organization (For Our Children’s Ultimate Success) that supports the youth in our community. The program provides participants with approximately 200 minutes of physical activity per day, in addition to enrichment classes aimed at improving their academics and other aspects of their lives.

Participants are engaged in a variety of age-appropriate activities designed to promote an active lifestyle, including:

  • Scuba Diving in the TAMU-CC pool
  • Ropes Course
  • Kayaking
  • Windsurfing
  • Horseback Riding

Additionally, they are exposed to university-related programs to inspire higher education, such as:

  • Various traditional sports - Kinesiology
  • Nature hikes - Nursing
  • Team-building activities - Music
  • Swimming - Biology
  • Pool games
  • Walking/running on the track

The partnership with the TAMU-CC Kinesiology Department helps to align the goals of The Right Start Program with our commitment to promoting health, fitness, and academic success in our community.

Testimonies

What did you like most about the Right Start Program?

  • She would come home very excited talking about her experiences. She was very eager to tell her younger siblings what she had learned and teach them, especially about swimming.

  • My child enjoyed the free swim! I was impressed by how well she swam on her own when we went to a pool party. She was so confident that she chose to take off her life jacket.
