Islander Spotlight: Parker Schroeder’s Journey into Research and Robotics at TAMU-CC
Originally from Round Rock, Texas, Parker Schroeder ’26 was drawn to the Island University by its support system and coastal beauty, but it was his fascination with 3D printing that spark the passion that illuminated his future.
"3D printing was what first introduced me to engineering and got me really excited about it," Schroeder shares.
This interest led him to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Collaborative Robots and Agents Lab (CORAL), where Schroeder quickly became known as "the 3D printing guy" due to his expertise in the field. Schroeder’s dedication paid off when a standout final project in his Digital Systems class caught the attention of faculty.
Dr. Pablo Rangel, an assistant professor in the Department of Engineering at TAMU-CC and a lead researcher at the university was so impressed by Schroeder’s skills, Rangel invited Schroeder to join a prestigious research project known as Pipebots.
“The Pipebots project focuses on developing a network of autonomous robots designed for use in environments like the International Space Station and wastewater systems, where communication through traditional signals is impossible,” Schroeder said. “I have been working on the project for two years, using 3D printing to develop parts and prototypes for the robots.”
Balancing research, studies, and extracurricular activities like the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) robotics competition hasn’t been easy for the engineering student taking part in his junior year.
"At first, I spent up to 60 hours a week in the lab because it was so fun," Schroeder admits. "But I realized I needed to focus more on my studies."
Schroeder is looking forward to interning with NXP Semiconductors, a Dutch semiconductor manufacturing and design company, where he will further refine his skills. Most importantly, he is eager to enter the robotics industry after graduation, with hopes of finding a company that supports further education.
"My plan is to go into industry and hopefully find a company that will pay for my master’s degree," Schroeder said.
Parker's journey is a testament to the opportunities at TAMU-CC, where passion and dedication can lead to life-changing experiences.
