Students should be enrolled in appropriate MATH courses (Math Pathways) based on major and career goals.

MATH Pathways

Students should complete their core MATH and core Communication Component Area requirements in their first academic year.

Research shows that students who complete their MATH and English courses in the first year have a much higher chance at completing their college degree. Thus, all first-year students at TAMU-CC should complete the appropriate core MATH course (based on their chosen MATH Pathway) during their first year. Students should also complete two core Communication Component Area courses in their first year to fulfill requirements for that component area.

All full-time, first-year students are required to take UNIV 1101 and UNIV 1102 as a graduation requirement.

We know that students who take both UNIV 1101 and UNIV 1102 in their first year at TAMU-CC have higher GPAs and retention rates than those who do not. Students should be encouraged to take UNIV 1101 and UNIV 1102 during their first two long semesters at TAMU-CC.

Students should complete 30 credit hours in their first academic year.

Although we encourage students to enroll in 15 hours each fall and spring, students can also take advantage of the summer semesters to catch up or get ahead.
