Undergraduate Council
Purpose/Function: The purpose of the Undergraduate Council is to consider matters relating to undergraduate programs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) – including the core curriculum – and to recommend practices and policies that enhance the quality of TAMU-CC undergraduate programs.
The Undergraduate Council reviews proposed revisions to general academic policies and regulations for the undergraduate catalog. The Council also reviews and advises on proposed course additions, updates, or removals within the undergraduate core curriculum, as well as substantive revisions to programs that support or involve undergraduate students across academic colleges. Two voting members of the Undergraduate Council will be elected each year to serve as members of the University Curriculum Committee (UCC). These representatives will communicate endorsements and concerns from the Undergraduate Council to the UCC.
The Undergraduate Council also considers strategic directions that the University should pursue regarding undergraduate education including curriculum, academic standards, grading policies and practices, delivery modes, and other issues relating specifically to undergraduate education.
Membership: The following representatives will be elected by their units to serve staggered two-year terms as voting members: two (2) full-time (tenured/tenure track or fixed-term) undergraduate faculty members from each academic college/school and one (1) representative from the Mary and Jeff Bell Library. Non-voting members from the following areas will be appointed by their supervisors to serve two-year terms: one (1) representative from Enrollment Management, one (1) representative from Student Engagement and Success, and two (2) academic advisors (one (1) representing Islander Advising Center/first-year advising and one (1) representing the other undergraduates). The chair of the Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee (who will liaise between Undergraduate Council and the University Curriculum Committee), Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs-University Registrar, and Associate Provost will serve as non-voting ex-officio members of the council.
Chair: Elected by the Undergraduate Council each year.
