LGBTQ+ History Month at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

October 1st - October 31st
LGBTQ+ History Month, which began in 1994, is an annual month-long celebration in October of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history, as well as the history of gay rights and associated civil rights movements. October was chosen because it corresponds with National Coming Out Day on October 11 and the month of the first March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1979. LGBTQ+ History Month provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. Join TAMU-CC for a month of community collaboration, games, prizes, food, and more!

October 3–- Don’t Be a Drag: A Look at Drag Entertainers and Libraries Mary and Jeff Bell Library, 2 Floor | 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Join the Mary and Jeff Bell Library as we welcome a panelist of experts discussing personal experiences and their perspectives on drag/LGBTQ+ entertainment and the LGBTQ+ community. In recent years advertisements for "Drag Storytimes" at public libraries created a whirlwind of discourse and even protests. Drag entertainers found themselves in the spotlight alongside libraries and supporters, having their lifestyles, intentions, and even moralities questioned. Our panelists will be discussing this and so much more, so bring your support, thoughts, and willingness to learn more and join us!
