Sexual Assault Advocate Training

Students:

The Department of Social Sciences in conjunction with the University Counseling Center, the Counseling & Training Clinic, and The Purple Door, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Corpus Christi, Texas which provide services at no charge to victims and survivors of family violence and sexual assault throughout a 12-county region of South Texas, will host a Sexual Assault Advocate Training Program on the TAMUCC campus beginning next month. Information regarding the training and how to apply is provided below:

Sexual Assault Advocate Training

Below is a brief description and schedule for the Sexual Assault Advocate Training: The sexual assault advocate training is certified by the Texas Office of Attorney General (OAG). This OAG certification is available to sexual assault programs that are providing training to employees and volunteers that help prepare them to provide services for victims of sexual assault, including accompaniment during a sexual assault exam. It is the minimum standards required for the certification of sexual assault programs that operate a sexual assault training program. It is an extensive look into everything that falls under the sexual violence continuum. The topics include everything from an introduction into Sexual Violence, Rape Culture, Gender Violence, working with vulnerable communities (male survivors, LGBTQ+, etc), legal remedies for survivors, human trafficking and many more. It is a 30 hour in class training along with 10 hours of take-home material. Individuals must attend all training sessions and complete all take-home material to receive certification.

Sept 30th (Thursday night 6 - 9 p.m.)

Oct 7th (Thursday night 6 - 9 p.m.)

Oct 14th (Thursday night 6 - 9 p.m.)

Oct 21st (Thursday night 6 - 9 p.m.)

Oct 23rd (Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)

Oct 28th (Thursday night 6 - 9 p.m.)

How to Apply for the Training

Individuals interested in attending the training should click on the link below. The one-page application form must be emailed to Maribel Arredondo, the Sexual Assault Service Coordinator at The Purple Door no later than noon on September 10th (Friday). Ms. Arrendondo’s email is provided on the application.
