Course Description:
As featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed, this course is interactive (not just a bunch of videos!) and thought-provoking.
Teaching with AI will support you in this work by introducing you to the terms and tools related to AI and machine learning, providing you opportunities to see them in action and try them yourselves, engaging you in conversations with colleagues at Auburn about how you plan to address the ethical and technical issues of the "AI disruption" in your courses, see how students are using these tools, and consider opportunities to partner with your students and your colleagues as we navigate this shifting landscape together towards the shared goal of designing courses that engage our students and support their learning.
Course Features:- Fully-online - No need to show up in a specific location to learn.
- Self-paced and self-directed - Learners have access to all content and updates for one year.
- Engage with whichever content interests you first.
- Asynchronous - Work at your own time. No need to show up at a specific date and time.
- Exemplary course design - developed by talented instructional designers and educational developers, the course has clear and measurable learning outcomes, transparent assignment design, and plenty of practice opportunities. We model what we preach!
- Eight modules. Total time to complete for an engaged learner is between 10 to 15 hours.
- Complete one assignment at the end of each module to earn an AI Explorer digital badge.
Course Cost
- FREE. There is no cost for any instructional faculty at any of the A&M system campuses.
Course Goals
- Learn about AI and its implications for teaching and learning in higher education - especially those relating to academic integrity.
- Consider examples (good and bad) of how to redesign courses for AI at AU.
- Experiment with AI tools, redesign assignments, and get feedback.
- Engage in conversations about your thinking on topics related to AI in the college classroom.
- Access a (growing and evolving) repository of research on teaching with AI.
- Engage your department colleagues in the conversation by modeling best practices and sharing your learning to ensure students in your program have a consistent, comparable learning experience no matter who is leading the class.
Course Length
The course contains eight modules that invite participants to explore, play, and articulate experiences with artificial intelligence.
Content includes technical, pedagogical, theoretical, and ethical lenses. Experts and beginners with artificial intelligence alike will find the course relevant and beneficial in elevating the conversation about the use of A.I. in education.
Course Format
The entire course is self-paced and fully-online, so any learner can complete it in their own time.
Time Burden
Each module takes between 40 minutes to 80 minutes to complete, and the entire course can be completed in between 10 to 15 hours.
Learning Credential – Digital Badge
Participants can earn the AI Explorer badge by completing eight tasks (one per module). Each of these tasks is related to the module content and will help learners make connections between what they are learning and how they can use AI in their classroom.
Near the end of each module, participants will encounter a roadmap. Each stop in the map — like each module in the course — will get you one step closer to understanding AI and its implications for teaching and learning in higher education.
