Dr. Hector P. Garcia Fellowship
The Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Fellowship. The purpose of the fellowship award is to encourage research using the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Papers.
The deadline for applications is May 9, 2025. The recipient will be notified by May 23rd, 2025.
The Award
Three awards of $1,000 each will be made to three separate applicants. The fellow will receive half of the award prior to commencing research and half upon completion of the stated expectations.
Requirements
To be eligible for consideration the applicant must:
- Submit a complete application packet by May 9, 2025 (additional information below)
Once awarded, the fellow will:
- Conduct research in residence at TAMU-CC Special Collections and Archives
- Write a brief (maximum 1,000 word) overview of research results
- Be interviewed for a web feature, which will be hosted and shared by the Mary and Jeff Bell Library
Eligibility
Faculty, graduate students, and independent researchers (public researchers) are eligible to apply for the fellowship.
Application Procedure
Applicants should demonstrate the relevance of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Papers to their research through a 500-word statement of interest. Essential information about the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Papers may be found on the Special Collections website, including the finding aid that describes the papers, a digital exhibit, and digitized items from his papers that have been made available in the TAMU-CC Repository.
Please submit the following materials with your application:
- A statement of interest (500 words) describing your research focus and the specific goals of your planned research during the fellowship.
- A brief C.V. (1-2 pages).
- The dates of your anticipated visit to Special Collections and Archives.
- One letter of reference indicating the significance of the proposed research. Reference letters may be sent directly to Special Collections and Archives or included in the application packet.
Application materials should be submitted electronically in PDF or Microsoft Word format.
Once Awarded:
Awardees will contact Special Collections and Archives via phone or email to confirm the dates of their proposed research appointment. Research must be scheduled between June 1 and December 15, 2025.
Upon completion of research, the fellow will submit a brief (maximum 1,000 words) overview of their research before January 30, 2026. The fellow will be interviewed for a web feature, which will be hosted and shared by the Mary and Jeff Bell Library.
