Marketing Students Learn to Hit One Out of the Park

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Whataburger Field received Dr. Ben Blanco’s Retail Management class on Wednesday, April 24, for a detailed behind the scenes glimpse into the minor league baseball stadium.

Home to the Corpus Christi Hooks Minor League Baseball team, Whataburger field approaches business through a multitude of avenues, including sponsors and special events, all for the enjoyment of the customer.

“Be a ‘yes person’ versus a 'no person,’” said Amanda Pruitt, Director of Community Relations. “You never know what an opportunity will open up to be.”

In 2010, the stadium had the third highest attendance records of all minor league baseball teams.

“Our slogan here is ‘Catch a Memory’,” Jeremy Sturgeon says, Director of Stadium Operations. “People create memories here.”

On game day, the stadium caters not only to adults, but to children in the form of trampolines, a playground, rock wall climbing, a moon bounce, obstacle course, and a little league field.

“It is definitely a plus to focus on getting involved in the community,” said Rome Casey, a senior business management major. “I really enjoyed learning how the sales guy held himself. That is something I wouldn’t have been able to get in the classroom."
