TAMU-CC College of Liberal Arts Faculty Tour New KEDT Facilities

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Members of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi College of Liberal Arts (CLA) were invited to tour KEDT, a community-owned television and radio station, to get a first-hand look at the station’s recently built facilities, located next to the Del Mar Economic Development Center. The meeting and tour June 9 served as a symbol of a growing partnership between the studio and the Island University.

“There are some great things going on in the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and there is an opportunity for our student or faculty projects to be either produced at KEDT or shared with KEDT viewers and listeners,” said Dr. Mark Hartlaub, CLA Dean.

The tour included a luncheon, during which CLA faculty and KEDT staff explored ideas on how the two entities could join forces to produce valuable content for the community at large.

“If you look at the main characteristic of a public radio listener, I would use the word ‘curious,’” said Don Dunlap, President and General Manager of KEDT. “There are a lot of research and new things being developed at the University that our community of listeners would be interested and curious about, so I think a partnership between us both is a good fit.”

The two groups also brainstormed about increasing student internship opportunities at KEDT in the areas of communication, media production, digital journalism and English.
