Island University’s Ph.D. in Counselor Education Recognized as 4th Most Affordable Degree in the Nation

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Students looking to advance in their degree in Counselor Education should look no further than Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Recently, Best Counseling Degrees listed the Island University as number four in the nation and number one in the state amongst its top 45 Most Affordable Accredited Doctoral Degrees in Counselor Education and Supervision for 2016. In addition to affordability, Best Counseling Degree highlights the program prepares graduates to be leaders in the field of counseling and counselor education at both the regional and national level.

“Our doctoral program has produced 90 Ph.D.’s, with many of our graduates taking university faculty positions in graduate programs across the U.S. and abroad,” said Dr. Robert L. Smith, Doctoral Program Coordinator and Department Chair at A&M-Corpus Christi. “Approximately 50 percent of our Ph.D. graduates are Hispanic with a large number being the first of their generation to obtain this degree.”

The Ph.D. in Counselor Education prepares graduates as professors, clinicians, researchers and leaders in the field of counseling and clinical mental health. Teaching Assistants in Counselor Education, mentored by seasoned faculty, are prepared to take university positions directly after graduation.

“The Counselor Education includes a diverse group of faculty and students,” said Smith. “International students currently enrolled, or who recently graduated, come from as far away as China, India, Venezuela, Germany, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Portugal, Canada, Mexico and Nigeria.”

The program found its way onto the list at number four as students can earn their degree totaling 69 credit hours for $10,588 as opposed the highest graduate tuition cost of $24,523 as listed by Best Counseling Degrees.
