Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Welcomes 40 New Members
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Superior scholarly achievement, academic integrity, professionalism, and leadership potential are characteristics embodied by the 40 new members of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. During the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi chapter induction ceremony on Aug. 8, each student made a pledge to the society, and received a lavender and white honorary cord from Eta Omicron Chapter officers.
“Your induction is not the end, it is not the culmination of your scholarly or professional achievements,” said Dr. Pamela Greene, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Chair of the Biobehavioral Health Science Department at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. “Instead, your induction is the beginning of your membership journey; it is the start of your involvement within a global network of peers and mentors who are here to guide and support you wherever your nursing career may take you.”
Of the 40 new inductees, 32 received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, three received a Master of Science in Nursing, and four received a Doctor of Nursing Practice at the Summer 2019 Commencement Ceremony on Aug. 10. One of the inductees was inducted as a community nurse leader.
“The leadership and scholarship that you have displayed represent the essence of this honor society,” said Greene, while addressing the new inductees. “Together, we are Sigma.”
The keynote address featured Julie Piña, Chief Nursing Officer for Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi. She shared her journey in nursing leadership with audience members and future nurses.
Sigma Theta Tau International’s mission is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. Eta Omicron is the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. It was chartered in 1984 by many faculty members of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at A&M-Corpus Christi.Additional Information
