Show Your Islander Spirit During Islander Homecoming 2021: Feb. 14-20

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Islander tradition continues! Show your blue and green pride as students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public celebrate Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Homecoming 2021, held Feb. 14-20. Looking to stay safe while having fun, this year’s festivities feature both virtual and in-person socially distanced events, accommodating more than 10,000 students and over 50,000 alumni nationwide to join in the homecoming celebration.

“Even though Homecoming will look a bit different this year, it was still important for us to show that Islander Spirit is alive as well,’ Russell Wagner ’08, Homecoming Committee Chair and Executive Director of Alumni Relations said. “Although the events will be limited, we’ve added many new opportunities for people to get involved with Homecoming than ever before.”

On Tuesday, Feb. 16, kick off Homecoming 2021 with Anchors Aweigh, a time-honored University tradition dating back to 1947. Students and the campus community can stop by to help paint the anchor and make memories with friends new and old as they await the introduction of this year’s homecoming court to see who will compete to become the first Homecoming Islander!

Show-off your Islander blue the same day, as part of the annual citywide Bluesday Tuesday. The Island University invites community members, supporters, alumni, and students to share their photos and Islander spirit by using the hashtags #BluesdayTuesday and #TAMUCC on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, for a chance to win a Yeti Roadie and other special prizes.

“Homecoming is a time where we are able to destress from school and get together and celebrate the campus and its traditions, it allows us to show our appreciation for our University and take part in activities that bring us closer together,” Anuja Dhakal, nursing major said. “Especially at a time like this where it is difficult to gain that interaction, it provides us with a sense of community which is what the island is known for.”

On Friday, Feb. 19, cheer and shout during the annual “Lighting of the I,” where students and alumni will dress in their best Islander swag to pump up the crowd ahead of the homecoming doubleheader. On Saturday, Feb. 20, Islanders and community members alike will cheer on the Islander Men’s and Women’s basketball teams as they face off against the Cardinals of Lamar University at the American Bank Center Arena for the Southland Conference title.  For game times and tickets, visit GoIslanders.com

Wrap up the week-long celebration with the Islander Homecoming Firework Show, presented by Whataburger, following the Islander Men’s basketball game. Kick off will start at 6:45 p.m. in the American Bank Center parking lot. Those in attendance are invited to take in glow of the night sky and the special light show as we bring an end to Islander Homecoming 2021.
