The Bachelor of Science in Public Health prepares graduates for entry-level positions in community and public health settings by providing an understanding of a broad range of health-related topics.
Program Details
The Public Health degree program is designed to provide students with an understanding of epidemiology, environmental health, health disparities, emergency management, health program planning, and qualitative research that will promote community and public health practice. Students can use electives to design a degree plan leading to further educational opportunities in professional schools, such as allied health, dentistry, medicine, law, or business.
What Will I LearnThe major will introduce students to broad-based training relevant to public health, including:
- Epidemiological principles
- Health care programs, policies, and evaluation
- Environmental health
- Emergency management
- Biostatistics in public health
- Outbreak investigations
- Primary Care in public health
Students learn to develop critical thinking and analysis skills by using problem-based learning to evaluate and analyze data while learning foundational concepts.
What Classes Will I TakeThe public health degree requires a minimum of 120 credits:
- 42 SCH Core Curriculum Program
- 2 SCH First year seminars (when applicable)*
- 27 SCH Directed Electives
- 45 SCH Required Major Courses
- 6 SCH Internship
- UNIV 1101 First-Year Seminar I - 1 sem. hr.
- UNIV 1102 First-Year Seminar II - 1 sem hr.
