Center for Healthy Sex presents a lecture by Greg Woodhill, MFT, CSAT and Dan Lacovara, MA: "How to Treat Pornography Addiction: Straight & Gay Perspectives" "The Sex Experts" is a monthly professional lectures series for sex therapists and specialists to workshop and refine new material that they've been working with in an informal setting before their peers. Any particular statements expressed herein represent the views of the presenter(s) only, but not necessarily the perspective of Center for Healthy Sex (CHS). With this lecture series, CHS intends to explore important issues and encourage conversation within the therapeutic community, as well as provide a platform to emerging voices. Lecture Description: Pornography is not a problem...unless it is! If you are seeing clients in a professional setting, then chances are that you are treating someone with an addiction to pornography. Regardless of age, gender, race, or sexual orientation, pornography addiction has become an increasingly problematic factor in many people's lives. The biggest barrier in treating pornography addiction is getting the client to talk about it so that we can help them stop, but how can we bridge that gap? Come learn how to assess for pornography addiction, begin the conversation with clients, and help them find ways to manage their addiction and restore intimacy in their lives. Greg Woodhill, MFT, CSAT, facilitates Sex Addiction Treatment Groups for Men, as well as works with individuals and couples at Center for Healthy Sex as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). He holds a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Santa Monica, in Santa Monica, where he developed his personal therapeutic style of empathic listening, exploring early childhood trauma, and encouraging personal responsibility. Greg has supplemented his knowledge through the following advanced coursework and workshops: Interpersonal Neurobiology and Attachment Theory in Irvine, Attachment Theory in Los Angeles, Sex Addiction training in Los Angeles, Memphis, TN and San Diego, CAMFT Couples Therapy in Los Angeles, CA. Dan Lacovara, MA, is a staff clinical associate at CHS working with sex addiction and love addiction. Dan's primary focus is on providing individual treatment to men with sex compulsivity and addiction issues and to women struggling with love addiction. Before joining CHS, Dan worked at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, where he worked with clients with substance abuse and mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and grief and loss. In addition, he designed the curriculum for and co-facilitated the Center's first Sexual Compulsives Group for men. He has participated in Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles (GPALA) trainings on psychodynamic and relational work in group therapy and with the California Association of Mental Health (CAMFT) on depression and its impact on intimate relationships. He has also received training in attachment theory and Bowenian approaches to individual and couples treatment at the Bowen Institute in San Diego.
