Making improvements to poor eating habits and adding exercise as part of a daily routine may not sound appealing to some, but it made a world of difference for three Kaiser Permanente Southern California members and three employees. Armed with knowledge shared by our weight-loss professionals, Kaiser Permanente members Gabriela, Scotty and Sonia, as well as employees Kevin, Rae and Sheila together lost more than 375 pounds. Motivating factors that led some to participate in a multi-session Health Education weight-management program included improving chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. For others, it was avoiding the onset of these and other diseases associated with obesity. No matter the reason they began their weight-loss journeys, they all feel better, have more energy, and value the newly acquired skills for leading a healthier lifestyle, thanks to the guidance from our health professionals.
