(8 Aug 1999) Voice and effects VOICED BY: Sophie Sanger Taiwanese police have raided a bakery which produced a so-called 'Viagra cake'. Inside the cake were 11 of Viagra tablets - which are prescribed for male impotency. The bakery in Taipei is charged with selling the tablets without authorisation. 002 Perhaps the ultimate celebration cake. 005 For the past two months, a bakery in Taipei is said to have sold cakes packed with Viagra tablets. 012 If the blue pills are found to be the real thing the baker could face three years in prison and a fine of over 3-thousand dollars. 022 The authorities in Taiwan only gave the go-ahead for the distribution of Viagra in March - and only then by doctor's prescription. 030 But there is a large black market, fed by people desperate for the tablets. Before they were legally available, a single tablet was reported to fetch as much as 65 dollars. 041 The pills are the subject of hot gossip in Taiwan. 045 No surprise then that bakers across the country have tried to cash in... producing cakes in the shape of Viagra pills. For those wanting a gift for a husband, or lover they could make a birthday or anniversary extra special. 058 End script Find out more about AP Archive: Twitter: Facebook: Instagram: You can license this story through AP Archive:
