Free PDF Guide - Keto Strategy Tips π Sticky black stools on keto are a nuisance! Timestamps: 0:00 Why you get sticky black stools on keto, and how to remedy them 2:19 I explain why your body is designed to digest fats well 3:57 Here are my recommendations to stop sticky black stools on keto I was asked why you can get sticky black stools on keto. Itβs unabsorbed fat. While youβre transitioning from running on sugar for many years to burning fat for fuel, your body needs time to adapt. You need to make more enzymes and bile to properly digest the fat. During this temporary transition time, you could end up with fatty stools, a condition called steatorrhea. Youβre overloading the colon with more fat than it can handle. If youβre just starting keto, youβre most likely in this transition phase. If you try my remedy yet keep having black stools, check with your doctor to rule out other causes such as: blood from an ulcer or hemorrhoid; pancreatic disease or exocrine gland insufficiency, which means your body isnβt producing sufficient enzymes to break down food. Other potential causes are too many iron pills, or side effects of medications. In addition, you could have deficiencies of vitamin A, D, E, and K, along with omega fatty acids, because these are all fat soluble. Your body is designed to have the correct amount of hydrochloric acid in your stomach, which triggers the release of bile from the liver, then it concentrates in the gallbladder before being released to digest the meal you ate, including fat. The pancreas also produces lipase, which breaks down fat even more after bile first breaks it down. This means your body is perfectly capable of adapting to an increased amount of fat in your diet, and also points out where the problem with undigested fat may be. Or, you could also have an issue with not enough friendly bacteria in your gut. The strongest recommendation I can give you to stop sticky black stools is to simply give your body more time to adapt. You may also temporarily reduce the amount of fat you eat, then slowly increase it. Sometimes these sticky black stools happen when youβre intermittent fasting and move to whatβs called OMAD (one meal a day). You eat a meal thatβs too big, and overload your system. Again, give it more time. You can also support your system by consuming apple cider vinegar, betaine hydrochloride, and purified bile salts.
