Avanafil is a new orally active phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Avanafil has demonstrated greater specificity combined with a more rapid onset of action and shorter half-life than currently approved PDE5i's. Erectile Dysfunction (Impotence) is the incapability to obtain or keep an erection for sexual intercourse. According to the clinical trials, Patients can take avanafil 12 to 24 hours when sexual intercourse is desired more frequently than once per day without concern for plasma accumulation. The study demonstrated that Avanafil produced satisfactory erections for vaginal penetration on 76, 79, 80 and 84% of sexual efforts on the 50, 100, 200 and 300 mg doses, respectively.
