Before starting keto and intermittent fasting, many people graze and eat very frequently, so they have high levels of insulin. Oftentimes, you have to correct this issue before you start to see significant weight loss. You can not do keto halfway, you have to fully commit. Keto without intermittent fasting does not work and vice versa! When starting intermittent fasting, start with 3 meals per day with no snacks. Adding more fat and more salad or greens to your diet can help you get from one meal to the next without feeling hungry. Potassium from vegetables can also improve insulin resistance and speed things up. You may also need to increase your vitamin B1 intake. Try drinking electrolyte powder or a nutritional yeast supplement. If you still have cravings or experience hunger between meals, you are not fully keto adapted. In this case, lower your carb intake and be aware of hidden carbs. Make sure you’re consuming .36 to .7 grams of protein per pound of body weight each day. As you adapt to keto and intermittent fasting, your need for protein will decrease. Also ensure that you’re not consuming too much fat. Too much dietary fat prevents the body from burning its own fat. As you decrease your eating frequency, also decrease your fat intake to speed up weight loss. If you have a slow metabolism and are still having trouble with weight loss, try the following: •One meal a day •Decrease stress •Increase sleep •Exercise more •Look for other issues in the body Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 58, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting.
