Why the hell did union leader Sean O’Brien suck up to Donald Trump at the RNC? On July 15 at the Republican National Convention, Teamsters President Sean O’Brien praised Donald Trump and ignored Republicans' anti-worker actions. “I think we all can agree, whether people like him or they don’t like him, in light of what happened to him on Saturday, he has proven to be one tough SOB,” said the Teamster president, speaking about the assassination attempt on Trump. In his speech, O’Brien criticized both parties and the “elites” while gently ignoring Republicans decade long tirade against the labor movement, including Trump’s horrible National Labor Relations Board and the former president's efforts to keep workers disempowered and poorly paid. O’Brien acknowledged the controversy, saying, “I don’t care about getting criticized.” And he will, by his own members! Following the speech, the Teamsters twitter went rogue, criticizing the union president. “Unions gain nothing from endorsing the racist, misogynistic, and anti-trans policies of the far right . . . You don’t unite a diverse working class by scoffing at its diversity,” the since deleted tweet read.
