Cultural Studies, Certificate

Upon completion of this certificate students will:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the core concepts of Black Studies, Mexican-American Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
• Demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the social and cultural concepts of “race,” "ethnicity," and "gender" and analyze the factors that have contributed to shaping aping of these social constructs.
• Demonstrate the importance of a cultural studies concepts to contemporary or historical issues and settings.

This is a 16-hour certificate. Students must take:

• MXAS 1305 - Introduction to Mexican American Studies 3
• BLKS 2300 - Introduction to Black Studies 3
• WGST 3301 - Introduction to Women and Gender Studies 3
• Two more courses from approved list of courses in BLKS, LMAS, MXAS, and WGST minors 6
• UNIV 3490 - Topics in University Studies (Archival Research Project) 1
