Sociology, BA
As the largest department in the College of Liberal Arts, we offer undergraduate degrees in both psychology and sociology, as well as minors in Social Work and Women and Gender Studies. We also offer a master’s degree in psychology with a clinical emphasis.
An undergraduate degree from our department prepares students to work in a variety of community settings, including social service agencies, human resource departments and mental health treatment programs. Our master’s program is one of the most well established at the university, training students to work as mental health professionals in a variety of clinical settings.
Program Details
At its core, sociology as a discipline aims to deconstruct the taken-for-granted assumptions about the workings of the world. Sociology provides the tools to develop a sociological imagination to allow one to approach the world without the preconceptions in order to see things in a new way.
