The Islander Leadership Academy will equip students with essential skills to succeed both academically and professionally. Students will benefit from workshops led by engineers and consultants, gaining valuable insights into real world engineering challenges.

Workshop on Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence refers to the ability to identify and regulate our own emotions, to recognize the emotions of other people and feel empathy toward them, and to use these abilities to communicate effectively and build healthy, productive relationships with others.

Emotional Intelligence is a learned skill (not a personality trait).

The skills associated with emotional intelligence can effectively assist individuals in managing negative emotional states such as stress and fostering more positive emotions instead.

Emotional Intelligence Objectives

· Understand, use and manage your emotions

· Successfully communicate with others

· Identify the benefits of emotional intelligence

· Relate emotional intelligence to the workplace

 

Presented by: Rene Ramirez

Rene Ramirez has over 34 years of experience in the Petrochemical Industry with 22 years working in a refinery (over 15 years as a frontline supervisor). Rene has a background in project management, engineering design, construction, maintenance & turnarounds. Since 2012, Rene has worked as a Senior Auditor for BP auditing major projects ($250MM +) and organizational capabilities.
