TN Dependents

Spouses and unmarried, minor children of a TN holder are eligible for a TD status. The dependent does not have to be a Canadian or Mexican citizen to qualify for a TD status and may apply at the same time as the principal or later based on the principal TN’s status.

Individuals in a TD status may live and study for the duration of their authorized stay in the US., but they are not eligible to work. However, a TD may change his/her status to an employment category if he/she has a job offer/sponsor.

The Canadian TN/TDs may travel freely and process their admission at any Class A Port of Entry or Preflight Inspections. A TN may change status to F-1, H1B, O1, TN, or other Nonimmigrant Status while in the U.S. or at any Class A Port of Entry or Preflight Inspection.

The Mexican TN/TD does not require a filing with the USCIS, but the applicant must visit a U.S. Consulate to apply for a VISA to enter the U.S.
