Types of Leave

Vacation - Benefits eligible staff and faculty members appointed on a twelve-month basis are entitled to vacation with pay.

Holiday - The University observes six legal holidays by closing offices and dismissing classes. They are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Birthday - TAMU-CC provides regular, budgeted, leave-eligible employees paid time off for their birthday in recognition of their birthday.

Family & Medical - FMLA is an unpaid leave that protects your job for up to 12 weeks. FMLA leave may be used incrementally or continuously for a period not to exceed 480 hours. If you return to work before or at the expiration of your FMLA period, you will be reinstated to your job or an equivalent job, unless you would not otherwise have been employed at the time.  Additionally, as long as you are on FMLA your benefits are undisturbed as the State’s Contribution continues throughout the period of FMLA.

Certification of Physician or Practitioner - This form is completed by a physician or practitioner and is used by the employee to request hours from the Sick Leave Pool (SLP), to ensure accountability for the use of sick leave, and to gather information for Family and Medical Leave Act and Parental Leave eligibility.
 

Parental Leave is either paid or unpaid leave during the birth of a child or the adoption or state-certified foster care placement of a child.  University employees, including student and wage employees, are eligible for leave, not to exceed 12 weeks, for these events.

Other time off - Other Reasons for time off are, Campus Closures, Voting, Jury Service, Death of a Family Member, and others as well.
