Foreign Language Requirement

How to satisfy the Foreign Language Requirement:

If you are planning to major in the College of Business, Education, Nursing, and Science and Engineering, you can satisfy the Foreign Language Requirement with two years of high school in a single foreign language or American Sign Language. If you don’t have that, then you must take two college semesters in a single foreign language or in American Sign Language.

If you are planning to major in the College of Liberal Arts, you can only satisfy this requirement by taking two college semesters in a single foreign language or in American Sign Language (ASL is not offered at TAMUCC at this time).

Available languages:

You may take Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Arabic. Click here for details on languages other than Spanish.

Spanish: To satisfy your requirement by taking Spanish at TAMUCC, you must take a Spanish Placement Test before you register in any class. This will determine the best course for you based on what you know. Click here for more information.

Other ways to satisfy the Foreign Language Requirement:

Other alternatives include exams such as CLEP, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD), and American Council for Teachers of Foreign Language (ACTFL). For more information on these exams and credits received, click here.
