Bands

Welcome to the Islander Bands! If you play a wind or percussion instrument, then there is a band for you! From Symphonic Winds to Pep Band, Concert Band to Jazz Band, and Mariachi de la Isla, the Islander Bands can match your talents and needs.

The Symphonic Winds – the premier concert band in the Department of Music – performs several concerts on campus and throughout South Texas, playing the best new and classic music for winds. The Concert Band is open to students of all majors and offers an energizing experience in a more relaxed setting. The Islander Pep Band performs at most home basketball games, bringing excitement and spirit to the arena. Jazz Band – our jazz ensemble – performs at various venues on campus and at the prestigious Texas Jazz Festival each October. In addition to the large ensembles, there are a number of chamber ensembles in the department, including flute ensemble, trumpet ensemble, tuba-euphonium ensemble, percussion ensemble, and many others.

Symphonic Winds (MUEN 1123)

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Symphonic Winds performs three concerts each fall and spring semester with a varied repertoire of music that includes original works for band, transcriptions, and marches. The Symphonic Winds performs music of all styles, with an emphasis on new music, and rehearses Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30-4:45 pm. Conducted by Dr. Brian Shelton, the ensemble is open to all TAMUCC students with previous instrumental experience by audition. Please contact Dr. Brian Shelton for additional information about auditions, which are typically held near the beginning of each semester.

Concert Band (MUEN 1122)

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Concert Band is a non-auditioned ensemble that rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00-6:15pm. Please contact the director, Dr. Brian Shelton, for additional information.

Pep Band (MUEN 1127)

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islander Pep Band (IPB) plays at most home games for the men's and women's basketball teams. The band is an exciting part of the Islander Athletics and adds to the upbeat atmosphere in the American BAnk Center at game time. Rehearsals for the band are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:15 pm. The Islander Pep Band is open to all students on campus with previous instrumental experience and is a fun way to get involved with the University. Jazz Band (MUEN 1128)

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Jazz Band (aka Islander Jazz Band) is a fun and exciting ensemble open to all university students with previous instrumental experience. Students rehearse traditional and contemporary styles of jazz with opportunities to perform for university events and also for special occasions in the Corpus Christi area and the surrounding region. Mariachi de la Isla (MUEN 1159/3159)

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Mariachi is an active and engaging ensemble open to all university students with prior instrumental and vocal experience. Dive into the vibrant world of mariachi music through this exciting course, designed to enrich students from all backgrounds. We invite you to explore the rich history and Mexican cultural heritage, refine your instrumental and vocal skills, and master the classic mariachi repertoire.
