South Texas Stories - Home

South Texas Stories is an ongoing oral/aural history project and digital archives that seeks to preserve and share the rich history and heritage of Corpus Christi and the surrounding area.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi history students, faculty, and staff at the Bell Library Archives and Special Collections have all contributed to the South Texas Stories project. On this site, you will find oral history recordings and transcripts conducted by both faculty and students, student-curated exhibits, student-created podcasts, and the beginnings of the Environmental Justice Digital Archives (a new, multiyear initiative). These pages include a variety of local and regional topics, with strengths in environmental history, Mexican American civil rights, and music in Corpus Christi.

Launched in 2016, the project aims to provide a deeper understanding of history among students and the local community. From 2016 to 2019, the project was co-directed by Drs. Claudia Rueda and Jen C. Brown. Dr. Brown has been the sole director since 2019.
