Description
-
This is an oral history recording of Arlene Long interviewed by Lisa Louis. Arlene talks about studying music when she was young; how she decided to pursue music as a career; getting her bachelor's and master's degrees; coming to Corpus Christi and her role as accompanist and piano teacher at Del Mar College and then becoming the accompanist for the Corpus Christi Chorale; important events in the history of the Chorale including the move from Del Mar College to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the construction of the new Performing Arts Center; and the impact of that move and the new performing space on the Chorale. Arlene also shares her thoughts on making music with singers, making music in groups, what music organizations bring to the community in which they reside, and the benefits of singing for singers and audiences. This interview was done as part a class project for HIST 5380: Topics in History: Oral History and Podcasting class (Summer 2019) and is featured in season one of the South Texas Stories podcast.
