This is an oral history of Jesse Valdez III, interviewed by Nicholas Vela. This interviews shows the relationship between family and music, and the two affect one another. Valdez, also known as DJ Diamond, is the third DJ in his family. He discusses the fundamental needs for music as a human art; how music shaped his upbringing and the style of music he now produces; and how as a father, music is a part of his relationship with his children and wife. This interview was done as part a class project for HIST 5380: Topics in History: Oral History and Podcasting class (Summer 2019) and is featured in season one of the South Texas Stories podcast.
