Academic Advising

The School of Arts, Media, & Communication (SAMC) requires that students meet with an Academic Advisor as soon as they are ready to declare a major. Degree plans are prepared by the student’s assigned Academic Advisor in the Academic Advising Center using DegreeWorks. Any amendment must be approved by the Department Chair and the Office of the Director. All courses and requirements specified in the final degree plan audit must be completed before a degree will be granted.

TAMU-CC Academic Advising Office is located in Faculty Center 148, 361-825-3401.

Dropping a Class

While SAMC hopes that no student ever finds it necessary to drop a class, events can sometimes occur that make dropping the right choice. Please consult with your Academic Advisor, the Financial Aid Office, and your instructor, before you decide to drop a course. Should dropping the course ultimately be determined as your best option, you must formally initiate the process to drop the course by going to the Student Services Center and filling out a course drop form. Just stopping attendance and participation WILL NOT automatically result in your being dropped from the class.  The last day to drop a class with an automatic grade of “W” for each of the following terms is as follows:

  • 2025: Fall Full Term - November 7, 2025
  • 2025: Fall 1 - September 29, 2025
  • 2025: Fall 2 - November 17, 2025
