SMTE Classes

Science, Mathematics and Technology Education

The SMTE program offers classes to support all future teachers.

 
The course description and syllabus for each SMTE class:
  • SMTE 0091, Laboratory Safety Seminar. Required of all students taking a laboratory science class. Not generally part of the SMTE program
  • SMTE 1350, Fundamental Mathematics I. Course Description. Link to Standardized Syllabus. Offered each Fall, Spring and Summer.
  • SMTE 1351, Fundamental Mathematics II. Course Description. Link to Standardized Syllabus.
  • SMTE 3315, Foundational Approaches to the Physical Sciences.
    Physical science topics such as simple machines, atoms, molecules, electricity and magnetism, sound, and light. Laboratory involvement will emphasize techniques of problem solving, data gathering, and data application. The course is taught following an inquiry based format and is recommended for future K-8 level science educators.
  • SMTE 3316, Foundational Approaches to the Life Sciences. Emphasis on biological concepts including cells, plants, invertebrate and vertebrate structural systems. Laboratory investigations focus on techniques of problem solving, data gathering, and data applications. The course is taught following an inquiry based format and is recommended for future K-8 level science educators.
  • SMTE 3352, Fundamental Mathematics III. Course Description. Link to Standardized Syllabus.
  • SMTE 4217, Secondary Approaches to the Life Sciences.
  • SMTE 4320, Secondary Science Laboratory Techniques.
    This course is designed to assist the student in developing skills and mastery of designated laboratory and research techniques. The course is required for future 4-8 and 8-12 level science educators. Prerequisites: BIOL 1407, CHEM 1312, EDCI 3311 or approval of instructor.
  • SMTE 4270, Science Education Topics.
    Presentations of contemporary issues in science education. Topics include history of science education, state and national standards for science education, cognitive development, the importance of culture, language and gender in learning science, authentic assessment, and interdisciplinary curriculum.
  • SMTE 4352, Fundamental Mathematics III. Course Description. Link to Standardized Syllabus.
  • SMTE 4382, Basic Math from an Advanced Viewpoint.
  • SMTE 5104, Graduate Teaching Assistant Seminar. Required of all new teaching assistants in the College of Science and Technology. Not generally a part of the SMTE program
