Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in or around the building except as part of an officially approved event in adherence to University policies. View the Request to Serve Alcoholic Beverages on Campus.
Bicycles are not allowed in the building; roller blades and skateboards may be carried but not used. Bicycles should be secured at outside bike racks, not attached to columns, light poles, or railings. Running is not permitted in the UC.
Tables, chairs, staging, A/V equipment, etc. may not be removed from the UC without approval by a member of the administrative staff. A signed equipment loan agreement form must be completed with UC Scheduling before equipment may be picked up.
Outdoor Sound Amplification
Amplified sound is monitored and restricted to reduce interference and/or disruption to classes and other academic activities. The use of any type of amplified sound system by student organizations, university departments, or other event/activity sponsors must be approved in advance through UC Scheduling. Approval will be granted if amplification will not disturb or disrupt class, reading days, finals, other testing periods, and other previously scheduled events.
Restricted outdoor locations:
Amplified sound may only be used in these areas from 11:00am-1:30pm and after 5:00pm Monday-Friday, and weekends on a case-by-case basis. Speakers and/or sound amplification devices must be more than 50 feet from, and directed away from, any classroom building, residence hall, library, or other locations in use.
- Garcia Plaza
- Lee Plaza
No Sound Allowed
- Breezeway/Spine in front of Center for Sciences, Bell Library, and Corpus Christi Hall
General outdoor sound regulations
- Amplified sound will not exceed 80 decibels within 50 feet of the speakers when sound is used outside. When inside an adjacent building, the sound level traveling inside the building should not exceed 70 decibels. Sound level guidelines may be relaxed when classes are not in session at the discretion of the UC staff.
- If noise complaints are received, the UC staff will work with the event sponsor to lower the sound level (even if below the above stated guidelines) but may, if necessary, turn off the sound equipment.
- Reservations for amplification will be on a first come, first serve basis. No more than one group will be allowed amplified sound in each area.
- Questions regarding the boundaries of a location or exception requests will be directed to the UC Director or designee to make the final determination.
Failure to abide by these guidelines may result in disciplinary measures and/or sanctions to the organizations including, but not limited to, cancellation of the event in progress, cancellation of other reservations, and/or loss of scheduling privileges.
Any posted information must be date stamped at the UC Information Desk, and placed on an appropriate bulletin board. Banners that are to be hung in the University Center may be displayed only in approved locations and must be scheduled through UC Scheduling. Signs, fliers, banners etc. may not be taped or tacked to walls, doors, trim, windows, bathrooms, railings, furniture or equipment at any time.
Red punch and/or glitter will not be allowed in the building. When glitter gets into the carpet, it is extremely difficult to remove and when red punch is spilled, it permanently stains carpets, walls, etc. Pink lemonade and Grapefruit punches will not stain and are allowed. Any violations of this rule should be reported to the building manager on duty or any full-time staff immediately.
Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times in the building for hygiene and safety reasons.
Smoking and/or vaping is prohibited in the UC. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas around campus. Vaping is not permitted anywhere on campus property, per the Texas A&M System Chancellor. View the map of designated smoking locations.
Telephones and other office equipment at the Information Desk and in offices are for UC business use only. Printers/copiers are available at Campus Copies in the UC East Entrance for a small fee. Scissors, tape, paper, markers, etc. are not loaned out; supplies are available from the Campus Store. In an emergency, the telephone at the Information Desk may be used.
An adult must accompany children/teenagers who are not 18 years old and/or are not students while in the building. During camps, conferences and other special events, children/teenagers may use the facilities of the University Center if accompanied by adult chaperones. Children left unattended in the lounges, game room, rotunda, etc.—even while parents attend events--will be escorted to parents/chaperones or out of the building.
All usage of the meeting/event rooms, information tables, outdoor areas, lounges, etc. for meetings, classes, programs, literature distribution, fund raising activities, etc. must be scheduled through UC Scheduling. Informal study groups may use the lounges, Rotunda, etc. but these areas should not be used for student organization or department meetings/events without special clearance from the UC Events Coordinator or other senior staff member.
