About Us

The Field Operations division is the most visible and recognizable unit of the University Police Department, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  The Field Operations  division consists of 15 sworn police officers who fall under the direction of Captain Melissa Perkins. Patrol officers are first responders to all emergencies on campus and are the first line of defense against crime on campus.  When they are not out on a call for service, officers patrol the campus streets, buildings, residence halls and other property owned or controlled by the university. The patrol officers are responsible for conducting preliminary investigations related to offenses that have occurred on campus. Support Services, under the direction of the Support Services Manager, Ms. Melinda Barajas (361-825-2277), is divided into three divisions; Communications, Parking Services and Security Systems.

Communications:

The Communications division is the center of information for the University Police Department and consists of six Police Communications Officer.  The Communications division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Police Communications Officers answer and direct all calls coming into the police department and utilize an automated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to track events, officers’ responses and status. This division also utilizes the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (TLETS) as well as the National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (NLETS). TLETS and NLETS link together local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies for the purpose of information exchange.  The Police Communications Officers are also responsible for activating the university’s Emergency Mass Notification systems.  The campus emergency line is 361-825-4444.  The campus non-emergency line is 361-825-4242.

Parking Services:

The purpose of the Parking Services division is to provide parking to all students, faculty, staff and guests of TAMU-CC.  Parking on campus is by permit only.  All requests for reserving parking lots or  parking spaces on campus must be authorized by the Parking Control division.

Security Systems:

The Security Systems Office manages the campus wide security camera system. In coordination with the Communication Division, it provides around the clock camera system monitoring. The office also manage the campus wide access control system including all SandDollar$ swipe card access and door key reqiests.

The Criminal Investigation Division is under the direction of Lieutenant George Herrera (361-825-6003) and carries out the investigatory function by conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes that have occurred on campus.  The detectives assigned to the division work closely with other law enforcement agencies as well as the Nueces County District Attorney’s office.  All crimes that are reported to the University Police Department are investigated and referred for prosecution when appropriate. Criminal matters involving students are also referred to the University’s Judicial Affairs Office.
