New to the Counseling Center and wanting to access services?

At this point in the semester due to high demand for services and having limited individual appointment availability, we are offering solution-focused sessions which are one-time, goal-focused sessions designed to address specific needs. This model allows us to offer brief and timely access to services for as many students as possible. Options for scheduling initial consultation appointments and initiating on-going individual counseling will resume at the beginning of the spring 2025 semester. Below is a brief description of our solution-focused and crisis services:

Solution-Focused Services

  • Designed to offer you a solution-focused, one-on-one conversation with a professional when you need a little bit of help getting unstuck and moving forward with your life. Sometimes one session is all you need. Please note, we cannot provide psychiatric medication services or documentation for accommodations requests during these sessions.
  • Solution focused services are available during Counseling Center counselor on duty walk-in hours, Monday- Friday 9:00-11:00am and 1:00-4:00pm on a first come, first served basis.
  • During high volume times in the afternoon, wait times may be 30-60 minutes or longer. If the counselor on duty has no more time slots, an administrator will speak with you briefly to provide information/recommendations and you will have the option to return at another time.

Urgent/Crisis Consults:

  • The Counseling Center provides non-emergency, same day crisis consults. Examples might include suicidal thoughts/feelings/behaviors, recent traumatic event, recent sexual assault, severe anxiety or panic attacks, severe depression that is interfering with daily functioning, or concerns about the safety of another person.
  • Come to the Counseling Center in the Driftwood Building during walk-in hours Monday-Friday 9-11:00am and 1-4pm to speak with the counselor on duty. During high volume times in the afternoon, wait times may be 30-60 minutes or longer.
  • After hours, call 361-825-2703 to be connected to a crisis counselor by phone.
For life threatening concerns, call University Police at (361) 825-4444 or call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
