Coastal Bend Writing Project Summer Teaching Institute 2022
Join us for an intensive experience in writing and writing instruction.
Introduction
The Summer Teaching Institute is an intensive, energizing, three-week professional development experience co-taught by a professor and an elementary teacher that develops teacher-leaders by increasing confidence and fluency in writing and in the teaching of writing in all levels and subject area classrooms. All programming is designed by teachers for teachers, and is shaped to your needs. The Summer Teaching Institute is appropriate for teachers of all grade levels, subject areas, and years of teaching experience.
When, where, and how?
- July 18-29, 2022, 8:30 am - 1:00 pm, Monday - Friday
- 3 graduate hours in English

What is the Coastal Bend Writing Project?
The Coastal Bend Writing Project is an innovative network that invites teachers around the region to share valuable ideas among their colleagues in the education community. The project is dedicated to discovering and providing relevant venues of communication, including a Summer Teaching Institute and an online network that parallels the National Writing Project's teachers-teaching-teachers model of ongoing professiona development. The Coastal Bend Writing Project is one of 209 National Writing Project sites in the Unites States, and the newest of 12 in the Lone Star State. It is affiliated with the Department of English at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and is committed to the following:
- Developing the teaching of writing and its use as learning and self-expression in the Coastal Bend elementary, intermediate, and high school classrooms
- Increasing literacy beyond the classroom through young writers' camps and teacher workshops
- Providing leadership opportunities and recognition for Coastal Bend teachers
