2025 Young Authors' Camp & Writers' Island Workshop
Young Authors' Writing Camp
The camp is designed to provide elementary and middle school students/authors with opportunities to expand their interest in writing and to experience writing as a fun and creative opportunity for self-expression and communication with others. This annual Young Authors' Camp will include a variety of writing activities visits with poets and artists, and nature walks. Each author will receive camp material, a t-shirt, and a camp anthology. The camp staff consists of a team of university professors, elementary school teachers, and university students.
Five different camp sessions will open in June 2025. Placement is determined by the student's fall grade level
- Grades 3-5 are eligible for the Elementary School camps
- Grades 6-8 will qualify for the Middle School Camp
- Grades 9-12 will be placed in The Writer's Island Workshop for High School students
All Campers may register for one or both camps in their age group.
Registration opens at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 3, 2025!
Camp Registration includes all required camp materials, a camp t-shirt, certificate, and anthology of student work.
Elementary Morning Camp Session 1:
2025 THEME: "Letter to Past and Future"
Calling all young writers, dreamers, and explorers! Travel back in time to write letters to historical figures, legendary heroes, and even your ancestors. Fast forward to the future and send messages to your future self, a futuristic civilization, or even an alien pen pal. Unlock the power of storytelling through creative letters, diary entries, and even time capsule messages. Fun activities include writing and sealing a letter to your future self, crafting mystery letters from the past, designing time traveler postcards, and the author's chair storytelling and letter sharing.

Elementary Morning Camp Session 2:
2025 THEME: "Places and Spaces"
Join us for an adventure through various places--real and imaginary-to discover what fun can be had in our very own lives. We will create travel pals and focus on some of our favorite writing places--real and imaginary. Come prepared for hands-on interaction, creative writing, arts and crafts, and a trip around our imaginations.

Middle School Camp Session 1:
2025 THEME: "The Arts"
Come join us for a fun combination of writing and the arts. We will dive deep into how writing and the arts go hand in hand. We will look to see how music, movement, and arts complement writing.

Middle School Camp Session 2:
2025 THEME: "Story Telling"
Join us for a fun week of storytelling. We will look at folk tales and legends of various cultures, practice creating our very own folk tales, and imagine engaging legends from our inner souls.
Monday, June 23 through Friday, June 27; 8:30 am to 4:00 pm; TAMU-CC campus.
What about lunch? Campers are encouraged to bring a sack lunch that does not require refrigeration.
Where are camps held?
Camps are held on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi University campus. Location to be announced.
Reminder: Bring a water jug and cap; apply sunscreen and mosquito repellent before coming to camp (we will not apply).

This annual Writers' Island Workshop will include a variety of writing activities as well as visits with poets and artists and nature walks. Each author will receive camp material and a t-shirt. The camp staff consists of a team of university professors, high school teachers, and university students.
2025 THEME- "Tell Me About You"
Discover your voice, tell your story, and explore who you are in this engaging writing camp! Through memoir and personal storytelling, we'll dive into the moments, memories, and experiences that shape you. Whether you are capturing childhood adventures, family traditions, or life-changing lessons, this camp will help you craft meaningful narratives that reflect your unique identity. With fun prompts, group discussions, and creative exercises, you'll gain confidence in sharing your story while connecting with others. Come ready to write, reflect, and celebrate what makes you you!
