Scientific Diving

Scientific divers pave the path to exploring and understanding our underwater world. TAMU-CC scientific divers perform cutting edge research through grants and contracts awarded from associations such as the National Science Foundation, Smithsonian Institute, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Discovery Channel. 

What certifications are required?

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Demonstrate a need for scientific diving
• Show proof of open water SCUBA certification
• Be able to pass a swim and water skills evaluation
• Pass a medical evaluation
• Complete a program application
• All TAMU-CC Scientific Divers must obtain 100 hours of training and demonstrate a high level of dive proficiency
• Divers who successfully complete TAMU-CC’s Scientific Diver training program are awarded an AAUS Scientific Diver certification
