Respondus
Products available at TAMU-CC
At TAMU-CC, faculty and students have access to three Respondus products to manage and participate in online testing. Faculty uses Respondus 4.0 to create, print or publish exams directly to Canvas courses. Students use Respondus LockDown Browser to take online exams in a secure user interface that limits access to system tools and external applications. Respondus Monitor is used in conjunction with LockDown Browser for exam proctoring.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
The support for Windows 7 will end on June 28, 2023.
- If you are using Windows 7, you will need to upgrade to Windows 10/11 or find another supported device. LockDown Browser can be used with Windows 10+, Mac 10.13+, Chromebook, and iPads running iOS 11+ (you must enable the iPad setting for your students - see the enabling iPad edition of Lockdown Browser for more information),
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas.

- When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading. Available for both Windows and Mac.
The Respondus Lockdown Browser is integrated with Canvas LMS. Simply enable it in the Canvas course menu by going to your course then clicking “Settings” and “Navigation” and drag-and-drop the “Respondus LockDownBrowser Dashboard” up to the list of visible course menu items. Don’t forget to click “save” to update your course menu.
*If you would like to see how the Respondus Lockdown Browser works in a student-preview mode, you will need to Download Respondus Lockdown Browser. If you do this, use the "Check for Update" feature to check for Check for Update" feature to check for any possible updates.
Important:
- Do not remove and do not share the password that the Respondus Lockdown Browse generates with students. It is a gatekeeper password that will prevent students from accessing the test on another browser.
- If you applied the Respondus Lockdown Browser to the exam and had to change the exam setting, you must go to the Course Menu --- Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard. You will see an error message. Click the "Fix It" button to fix the error. If this is not done, the students will not be able to start the exam.
Once an exam is started using the LockDown Browser:
- Assessments are displayed full-screen and cannot be minimized.
- Browser menu and toolbar options are removed, except for Back, Forward, Refresh, and Stop.
- No access to other applications including messaging, screen-sharing, virtual machines, and remote desktops.
- Printing and screen capture functions are disabled.
- Copying and pasting anything to or from an assessment is prevented.
- Right-click menu options, function keys, keyboard shortcuts, and task switching are disabled.
- An assessment cannot be exited until the student submits it for grading.
- Assessments that are set up for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with other browsers.

Respondus Monitor
Respondus Monitor® builds upon the power of LockDown Browser, using a student's webcam and video analytics to prevent cheating during non-proctored exams. Respondus Monitor integrates seamlessly with Canvas. Students access exams within Canvas as they normally would. Students are then guided through a pre-exam sequence, including a webcam check. Exams can be taken with Respondus Monitor without advanced scheduling and without additional registration by the student. Instructors use the Respondus LockDown Browser tool within Canvas to require an exam use Respondus Monitor, and engage in post-exam review of proctoring results.
