Percussion Studio
Under the direction of internationally renowned percussionist and composer Dr. Caleb Pickering, the percussion program at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi provides a well-rounded education that prepares students for a variety of creative careers. Our students develop into versatile professionals with the skills and creativity to thrive in today’s music industry. The faculty, who are active performers and scholars with national and international experience, support this growth. Graduates have gone on to careers as performers, educators, composers, music therapists, audio engineers, and industry professionals, with many pursuing graduate studies and winning graduate assistantships.
The percussion program takes a total percussion approach, offering students opportunities to explore a wide range of musical styles, ensembles, and instruments. Students perform in chamber groups (2-8 performers) and larger percussion ensembles (9 or more, conducted), with repertoire ranging from early percussion works to contemporary and commissioned compositions. Students also regularly perform with the university’s Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Jazz Ensembles and Combos, Pep Band, and Contemporary Chamber Ensembles.
The program offers several degree options, including the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Music with Teacher Certification, Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry), and Bachelor of Arts (Music Studies).
